Composite markets feel effects of Chilean temblor
Monday, March 8, 2010
Composite panel markets have been seriously affected by last week's earthquake in Chile.
Both particleboard and medium density fiberboard (MDF) are under demand pressures, based on the sudden cessation of shipments from key Chilean suppliers.
MDF has been more seriously affected than particleboard at this point, primarily because a number of U.S. moulding manufacturers use board imported from Chile to produce their mouldings. Particleboard seems to be reacting sympathetically, since it is less important than MDF for this end use.
